In the Netherlands, eye care is accessible and often taken for granted. Opticians and ophthalmologists are easy to find, and obtaining a pair of glasses is relatively simple.

But in countries like Ghana and Nigeria, this is a luxury. Millions of people suffer from poor vision simply because they lack access to eye exams or affordable glasses.

With Eye Care Without Borders, we are changing this reality.

In collaboration with Schoonhoven Eye Care, Foundation Light for the Eye is committed to making eye care accessible for those who need it most.

What we do

✔ Travel multiple times a year to villages and communities where eye care is unavailable.

✔ Perform professional eye exams using advanced equipment.

✔ Provide as many people as possible with prescription glasses or optical aids.

✔ Deliver immediate results: children can learn again, parents work more efficiently, and elderly people regain independence.

The impact is significant. During our visits we help large groups of people who would otherwise never receive an eye test or glasses. We measure their vision, have prescription glasses custom-made, and personally deliver them during our next visit.

Advanced AI-Supported Eye Care

✔ Fundus Photography (Retinal Imaging) – High-resolution images of the retina allow early detection of eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and other retinal disorders. These images are analyzed with AI technology, reviewed by an optometrist, and, if necessary, assessed by an ophthalmologist.

✔ Screening for Eye Disorders – In addition to prescribing glasses, we check for potential medical eye conditions and refer patients for further evaluation when needed.
